Wednesday Night Study Group!

In June, Pastor Wayne will be leading a new class based on Craig Groeschel’s eye-opening book, The Christan Atheist. The class will begin meeting on Wednesday, June 6 at 6:00pm in Fellowship Hall after a dinner served at 5:15pm. Latecomers are always welcome for dinner; we always have plenty of food. In addition, children are welcome and special activities will be planned for all the little ones.

You believe in God, attend church when it’s convenient, and you generally treat people with kindness. But have you surrendered to God completely, living every day depending upon the Holy Spirit? Does your belief in God really impact your daily life? If the answer is no, you may be a Christian Atheist. A Christian Atheist is someone who believes in God, but lives like He doesn’t exist. For example, you believe in God, but worry all the times, or you believe in God, but trust money more.

In The Christian Atheist, Craig Groeschel shares from his own journey of growing up in a “Christian” household, but the most that faith required was to attend church several times a year. When Groeschel discovered that the real key to faith is intimacy with God, everything changed.

In this six-session interactive study (videos and small groups), you will be led on a personal journey toward an authentic, God-honoring life. Discover a powerful, intimate relationship with God for yourself and you’ll never be the same!

The participants guide is required for the class and can be purchased through the church office for $8.00. The book that corresponds with the class is highly recommended and can also be purchased for $10.00. There is s sign-up sheet in Fellowship Hall or you can call the church office.

Vacation Bible School

Mark your calendar for the Amazing Desert Journey, our theme for this years’ Vacation Bible School beginning Wednesday May 30th and continuing every Wednesday through June 27th. The program will run from 9:30am until 1:00pm and will include lunch.  The children will learn about God’s amazing plan to rescue them from sin through His Son. As they hear the accounts from Scripture of God’s forgiveness, mercy, and salvation, children can relate these Bible truths to their own life of faith. There is a big emphasis on teaching the children The Lord’s Prayer.

Sign up sheets are available in the office, in fellowship hall, or you can Click Here to register your child online. Once on the registration page, click Register Students on the left side task bar.

Seder Supper – April 5, 2012 6:30pm

A New and Enriching Experience at FPC!

Have you ever wondered what kind of meal Christ shared with his disciples at the Last Supper? The Seder meal is the joyful family dinner and worship service held in Jewish homes on Passover. Seder means order, and the Seder meal consists of a number of ceremonies of extreme antiquity. Through these ceremonies and symbols, we can feel the trails of the Jews of the Exodus – their embittered life of bondage and the joy of their subsequent triumph of freedom.

FPC will celebrate Passover in a way similar to what Jesus and the disciples might have done. In addition to the symbolic foods, we will share a dinner of roast chicken with apricots (representing roast lamb), dilled carrots with sugar (representing bitter herbs with sweet), and a green salad. During this service, we will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper. There will a special time of reflection to prepare our heart and minds for Easter.

It is important that we have an accurate count of those attending, so we are asking you to sign up in Fellowship Hall or call the office at (580) 355-4122.

Operation Christmas Child 2011

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes and evangelistic materials that tell the Good News of God’s love.

There are many ways you can participate. Families can do a gift-filled shoe box together, or individuals can team up with another friend to do a shoe box. We will have a bin available to collect individual items if you do not want to fill a complete shoebox.

It is a wonderful way of sharing God’s love. Packed shoe boxes will be collected on Sunday, November 13th. The boxes then begin their journey to the local collection center and then on to children in need around the world.

Cash donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church. Volunteers will assemble additional shoe boxes using the individual items donated plus gifts purchased with the cash donations. Finally, Pray! Pray that God will touch the heart of every child who receives a shoe box gift, and that He will bring many children and families to faith in Christ.

For more information, check out the Operation Christmas Child website.

How To Pack A Shoe Box

  • Shoe Box:   Use an empty shoe box (standard size, please) or a small plastic container. You can wrap the box (lid separately), but wrapping is not required. Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift.
  • Boy or Girl: Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.
  • Fill With Gifts: Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child.  Use the gift ideas provided on the bottom of this page.
  • Include $7 Donation: Please donate $7 or more for each shoe box you prepare to help cover shipping and other project costs. You can give online by using our “Follow Your Box Donation” option, or you can write a check to Samaritan’s Purse (note “OCC” on memo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the gift items inside your box. If you or your family are preparing more than one shoe box, please make one combined donation.
  • Drop Off: Place a rubber band around each closed shoe box and drop off at the Collection Center nearest you during our collection week, November 14-21.

For locations and hours of collection visit Samaritan’s Purse Drop-Off Locations page where you can find the nearest place to take your shoe box by entering your ZIP Code or you can call 1-800-353-5949.
